Friendly, sophisticated comfort.
Lumo provides high function in a beautiful shell, honing in on the feeling of “friendly, sophisticated comfort”. In initial development of Lumo, the mood board explored potential environments, physical forms, or any general textures that evoked this feeling.
High function, high fashion.
The portability aspect made for an opportunity to create an interesting interaction between the base and the lamp itself. I found myself leaning towards bulbous, organic forms that softly transitioned between the base and lamp. The highlighted iteration is the form that made the most sense to move forward with as inspiration.
A labor of love (and plastic).
The form was modeled in Fusion360 with a total of four parts— two translucent shell pieces, and two handle enclosures; all of the pieces were 3D printed and sanded for a smooth finish. The base was modeled out of yellow foam, and given a few rounds of spackle and sanding to achieve a smoother look before finishing off with matte green spray paint. I modeled a stand support on the inside of the shades to hold the light, which for demo purposes is connected to an on-off switch through a cord.

Lumo’s feeling of comfort is achieved through its soft, organic form. The stand is perfectly fitted and makes for an easy mounting experience. Lumo can be moved from stand-to-stand around your space, which opens up your routine to wherever you’re most comfortable.
